Dishwasher repair in Welland, before a slow leak reaches the cabinets

A dishwasher sits boxed into the counter run, so a small leak works on the floor and the cabinet base for weeks before anyone notices a puddle. That is why we look at what is under the machine as well as at the fault you called about.

  • Built in, integrated behind a cabinet panel, compact and portable units
  • The floor and the cabinet base get a look, not just the machine itself
  • Parts and labour as a single number, agreed before the unit slides out
  • Three months on our labour, and the phone is answered 7am to 11pm daily

Say what your dishwasher is doing and we will come out ready for it

Four groups of faults cover nearly every dishwasher call in Welland. Two of them come down to the filter and the spray arms, and those are ten minutes of your own time before you book anyone.

Dishes come out gritty or filmed over

Niagara water is hard, so a chalky film is often the water rather than the machine. Actual bits of food left on the plates are a different story and point at water not reaching them properly.

  • Pull the bottom rack out and twist the filter free. If it has never been cleaned, that alone is behind a lot of these calls.
  • Spin the spray arms by hand and hold them up to the light. Holes blocked with scale or seeds leave whole sections of the rack unwashed.
  • A worn wash pump or a stuck diverter sends water to only one arm, so the top rack comes out clean and the bottom does not.
  • Water that never gets properly hot leaves grease behind on everything, and that usually means the heating element rather than the detergent.

Water sitting in the bottom every morning

An inch or so left in the sump is normal on some models. A full pool that never clears is not, and the blockage is usually somewhere you can reach without tools.

  • The filter again. A pad of soaked food debris under the mesh stops the drain from taking anything.
  • If a new garbage disposal went in recently, check the knockout plug was removed. Fitters forget it, and the dishwasher then has nowhere to drain.
  • A drain hose that has lost its high loop under the sink lets the sink water siphon straight back into the machine.
  • A drain pump that hums without moving water has jammed on glass or a fruit sticker, which is more common than it sounds.

Water spreading out across the floor

The one to call about quickly. Under a built in unit the water goes into the cabinet base and the subfloor first, and by the time it appears at the kickplate it has been running for a while.

  • Run a finger along the bottom of the door seal. Grease, a torn section or a gap at the corners lets water out on every fill.
  • Too much detergent, or ordinary dish soap by mistake, produces foam that walks out under the door. No fault at all, just the wrong soap.
  • Hose connections at the back loosen over years of heat cycles, and that leak lands behind the machine where nobody looks.
  • A machine that is not sitting level pushes water toward one front corner, and that corner is where the puddle keeps appearing.

It stops halfway, or will not start at all

Photograph any code on the display before you call. Manufacturers use their own numbering, and knowing yours saves the tech a chunk of the diagnostic.

  • Many machines have a flood float in the base. Once it trips after a small leak, the unit refuses to fill until someone resets it.
  • A worn door latch stops the cycle starting, because the machine cannot confirm the door is properly shut.
  • Stalling at the same point every run usually points at the water inlet valve or the fill sensor rather than the control board.
  • A completely dead panel is sometimes just the switched outlet under the sink. Worth checking the breaker before anyone drives out.

Cleaned the filter and it is still pooling? Ring and describe what it does, and we will tell you what it usually means. No charge for the visit or the diagnostic once you approve the repair.

Ring and ask. These five come up on nearly every dishwasher call.

Three of them have answers that cost you nothing, and we would rather you tried those first.

Everything comes out with a white film. Is the machine broken?

Usually not. A chalky film that wipes off with vinegar is limescale from hard water, and Niagara water is hard. Keep the rinse aid topped up, since that is exactly what it is for, and run a cleaning cycle with a descaler every few months. What is not normal is grit and stuck food, or cloudiness that will not wipe away at all. The first points at the filter or spray arms, the second is usually etching, which is permanent and not something a repair fixes.

How often should the filter be cleaned?

Once a month if the machine runs most days. It sits under the bottom rack and twists out by hand, no tools involved, then rinses under the tap with an old toothbrush. Plenty of people have never taken one out because nothing in the manual made it sound necessary, and a filter that has been left ten years is a genuinely common reason for both dirty dishes and standing water. It is the cheapest repair on this page and you do it yourself.

It stopped draining right after a new sink was installed. Coincidence?

Almost certainly not a coincidence. New garbage disposals ship with a plug in the dishwasher inlet, and it has to be knocked out during the install. When it is missed, the dishwasher has nowhere to send its water and fills up instead. The other version is the drain hose losing its high loop under the sink while someone was working in there, which lets sink water siphon back. Both are quick to sort, and neither is a fault with your dishwasher.

Do you work on integrated units hidden behind a cabinet door?

Yes. Integrated machines take longer because the cabinet panel and the counter fixings come off before anything else happens, and on a tiled or stone counter that has to be done carefully rather than quickly. Mention it when you book so the slot is long enough. The same goes for a machine that has been sitting in a leak for a while, since the base panel usually has to come off to see what the water has been doing.

Is a dishwasher worth repairing or should I replace it?

Pumps, valves, latches, heaters and seals are all worth doing, even on an older machine. The line we draw is a control board on a budget unit, where the part alone gets close to half the price of a new one. Worth remembering that a replacement is never just the machine either, since something has to come out of the cabinet and something new has to be plumbed back in. The tech gives you the number for the repair and leaves the decision with you.

Everything was coming out with bits still on it and I had gone through three different brands of tablet blaming the detergent. He took the filter out, showed me what was under it, and cleaned it in the sink in front of me. Would not take anything for the visit.

Water spreading out from under the kickplate. He pulled it out, found where it was coming from and also checked the cabinet floor underneath, which was already going soft. Glad I did not leave it another month.

Stopped draining the same week we had a new sink and disposal put in. Turned out the plumber had left a plug in. Two minutes and it was fine.
Amanda T.North Welland · 3 weeks ago
Ours is the integrated kind with a cupboard door on the front. Took him longer to get it out of the run than to do the actual repair, and everything went back on square. You would not know anyone had been at it.

Kept stopping partway with a code on the front. Sent them a photo of it when I booked and he arrived with the part already in the van.
Luis P.Coyle · last month
I was ready to buy a new one after being told by someone else that the board had gone. These folks checked properly and it was not the board at all. Cost a fraction of what I had been quoted and it has been running fine since spring.
